Today is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in Jamaica. May 6, is the annual date of this celebration but this year it has been moved to the first Wednesday in May, as it often is. On the occasion of the holiday, most schools are closed early to give teachers an opportunity to have well-deserved rest. It is marked with teaching conferences and other events appropriate for the occasion. October 5 marks World Teachers Day which is also celebrated in Jamaica.
