Child Rights Village and Launch of NPACV

November 19 marked World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse. To commemorate this, CPFSA hosted a Child Rights Village and concert as well as launched the National Plan of Action for an Integrated Response to Children and Violence (NPACV) at Emancipation Park.

The Village was held from 2-5 PM under the theme “A Child’s Right to NO ABUSE!”, featuring various booth holders divided into clusters according to the four child rights categories: Survival, Development, Participation and Protection. The session also included games and activities for children and others to learn more about the rights of the child and varying services and products of the booth holders. Jenny Jenny kept the day lively and exciting.

Later, in partnership with the Violence Preventing Alliance we launched the NPACV.  The document is a part of Jamaica’s response to its commitment made to the Global Partnership to end violence against children and will be implemented over a five-year period. Mr. Newton Douglas, Director – Policy, Planning and Evaluation was co-chair of the working committee

The evening’s proceedings also included a truncated version of the annual Candlelight Vigil, recognizing children who died in tragic circumstances from January to October 2019.
